Review: The Faceless Ones

The Faceless Ones The Faceless Ones by Derek Landy
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I've been re-reading the Skulduggery Pleasant series out of nostalgia for my youth (and also because Derek Landy keeps writing additional books to the series and it's been so long I can hardly remember what happens).

I did enjoy the first two books, but The Faceless Ones might just be my favourite so far. I love the introduction of Fletcher Renn, arguably one of my favourite characters (Behind Sanguine of course). The character development in this novel is also quite strong, especially with Kenspeckle's interference with Valkyrie. I don't know why, but I think my favourite part of the book is when Valkrie's tooth breaks. I think it might be because it's the first time Skulduggery kinda views Valkyrie as the kid she is and not as a flawless adult.

I do remember when I read this for the first time, I was entirely under the impression this would be the last book of the series (can you believe I actually read this when it was new out, and Dark Days was yet to be released??), so the cliffhanger ending had me screaming, crying, throwing up. Anticipating it now didn't make it much easier.
