Wow! Of course I read this because I adore the animated movie adaptation. But the novel is so much better. There are so many more characters involved, and there's a real storyline. It's also so different from so many other books in the fantasy genre. Diana Wynne Jones has a real skill for creating whimsical and fantastical places and characters. I'd love to read more from her.
